Cyberpunk 2077: An important production phase has completed. Engine is up and running- confirms CD Projekt Red’s President Adam Kiciński

Release date is still unknown

BY AMIT BARAN ROY   |   It’s been already 5 years since the announcement of CD Projekt Red’s next flagship title ‘Cyberpunk 2077’. For a long time now, we are waiting impatiently for the release date of the game and grabbing all the new news that comes up for the game. In a recent interview with CD Projekt Red’s President Adam Kiciński, we got to know that Cyberpunk 2077 has just closed an important production stage and the Engine is fully up and running. Though Adam Kiciński refrained from giving a release date, but we strongly hope that the game may be out in 2019.

On being asked about the game’s schedule, Kiciński replies that there are no problems that can affect the production. The production stage is going pretty much on track and the team is happy with results. He further says that the production team is over 300 people which is bigger than what they had for Witcher 3. This is the best team of programmers in their history of game development. Regarding the release date, we may not expect anything in 2017 or even in 2018.

You have to wait patiently for the official announcement. We will not announce the date of this year or next - I will not reply. Commenting on the speculation market would be unfavorable for us. The most important thing is to build the most interesting players, which will translate into sales.

CD Projeckt Red has their custom game engine REDengine which was exclusively designed for their non linear, role playing games. Witcher 3 was developed on the third iteration of the engine which was REDengine 3. But for Cyberpunk 2077, there has been lots of modifications planned to upgrade the engine to REDengine 4. On being asked about the readiness of the engine, Kiciński confirms that the engine is fully up and running, and there will be constant updating in future.

The engine is up and running. Of course it will be further developed. At each of our games we had to develop technology very well and this time it was the same. It must be appropriate for our needs with the specific title and the world we create and match the capabilities of the devices available on the market. Therefore, the engine needs constant updating – its modifications usually take place to a very late stage.

Few days back in an interview with Polish business website Strefa Inwestorow, Adam Kiciński revealed that CD Projekt Red is looking forward to online service features and multiplayer options for their flagship title. He stated that “Online is necessary, or very recommended if you wish to achieve a long-term success.” This is not the first time that online and multiplayer options were associated with the title. Last year, CD Projekt Red was awarded $7 million USD by the Polish government for research into ‘Seamless Multiplayer’ technology. Therefore, there will definitely be some kind of online component that will be associated with the title in future.

Therefore, Cyberpunk 2077 won’t be available anytime sooner. Based on all the discussions and facts, we hope that there will definitely be a release date sometime in early 2019. Stay tuned for more news on Cyberpunk 2077.
