Nier:Automata developer, PlatinumGames teases a ‘formless, shapeless’ IP

BY AMIT BARAN ROY   |   During a keynote address at BitSummit in Kyoto, Japan; PlatinumGames producer Atsushi Inaba has revealed that the studio is working on a mysterious ‘formless, shapeless’ IP, details of which he was reluctant to disclose at that moment. He also mentioned that the new IP will involve a new director who will be responsible for the future growth of the company as well. This plan of having their own IP was actually dreamt off by Inaba-san in last year’s edition of BitSummit, and now we feel that plan is taking effect.

Inaba-san has also said that he is not very sure if the studio can maintain their pace of releasing one title per year but they are looking forward to release new games for fans. He mentioned that there will be new information on this IP the next time he comes for a similar talk and wants his fans to look forward to it.

PlatinumGames is the studio behind the critically acclaimed Nier:Automata which got a stunning release this year. They are also the developers behind Bayonetta games, Metal Gear Solid Rising: Revengeance and Vanquish, which is coming to PC next week.

This year January, the studio suffered a set-back due to the high-profile cancellation of its Xbox exclusive, Scalebound. Disappointed by the quality of development, CEO Kenichi Sato apologized and promised for high quality delivery in future. Though, recently Microsoft renewed its trademark for Scalebound giving hopes that the project may still see the light someday.

Unfortunately, not much details were revealed about this IP. Can we get to see a teaser this E3? Not very sure about it. Stay tuned for more info.
