BY    |   World wrestling Entertainment, one of the most popular and mesmerizing TV shows is rebooted for a fresh PC gaming series in the form of WWE 2K15 by Visual Concepts and Yuke’s with 2K Sports as the publisher. Also, this is the first WWE game on PC after the 2002’s WWE: RAW. As a devoted PC gamer and a WWE fan, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this game as soon as possible and am writing this review on my first looks of the game.

Launching a WWE game on a PC for after almost 10 years gave me enough goosebumps before I was completely flabbergasted by its extremely new look of the home screen with the options of single player, career mode and a 2k Showcase mode as well. I wasted no time and went straight to the single player mode and unbelievably the game started to look as if a complete mimetic of the actual live action as we see on the TV. It goes without saying that the game developers Visual Concepts and Yuke’s have seriously worked on the in game cinematics and the gameplay which gives us the real experience of playing a WWE match.

6 man Hell in a Cell

The gameplay has been reworked very nicely on the lines of the TV version with the introduction of the collar and elbow tie up move.

Collar and Elbow Tie Up- To initiate a collar and elbow tie up, one has to press the grapple button at the beginning of the match while moving towards the opponent. This move can be initiated at the most 3 times during a match.

  • Pressing one of the three face buttons will drive their opponent into a side headlock, wrist lock or a waist lock in a rock, paper, scissor style approach.
  • Headlock beats Wrist lock but gets beaten by waist lock which in turn gets beaten by wrist lock.
  • One who wins tries to find the sweet spot indicated by a red glow by rotating the right analog stick or the movement buttons and holding the control in that position to intensify the attack.
  • The attack can be countered if the defender finds the spot first and respectively can dominate by blowing a strike or performing a wrench.

The game also incorporates a new feature of using a three tier stamina bar which depletes as the fight goes on and can go as low as to make it impossible for the player to perform a signature or a finishing move. The game’s submission and pinfall system has been revamped making it befitting for the player to perform one. The game also uses the concept of switching between a signature or a finisher move and the moves can be activated quite easily with a required hype level. Rey Mysterio’s 619 and Undertakers’ Tombstone Piledriver are just fantabulous which has meticulously incorporated the dynamic pinfall system of the reality show.

The developers did a great job in introducing several game modes to play from such as tag team matches, triple threat, royal rumble, hell in a cell, elimination chamber and many more. The new feature of female wrestlers and an exclusive DIVA category makes this game even more delectable. Graphics are eye-catchy and near to real but with some tearing and pixellation at the background during a wrestler’s entry. The gameplay graphics are pretty stable with a consistent 55fps at the lowest settings with my 7730M AMD Radeon card on a medium rig and the cut scenes play at around 30 fps. Also the game at times suffers from lag and consistent crashes during the replays which got fixed in one of the latest updates. The characters have been properly worked upon to mimic the original superstars in the best possible way. The action scenes, cinematics are very realistic and the 2K showcase section even includes instances from real world story line and videos. Even there is the option to play with exclusive superstars like Hulk Hogan and Sting including managers such as John Laurinaitis and Zeb Colter.

The hot shot DiVAS!

The sound quality of the game is decent enough with flamboyant commentary and includes all the current entry song tracks of the superstars. The dynamic audience cheer and support gives the game an even more realistic feel and energy.

The multiplayer section of the game is one of its best. Upto 6 players can together play on a single system with lot of different types of matches and tournaments. Multiplayer Gameplay is flawless and even more enjoying and competitive. I personally tested the game with 4 players and had a thrilling experience.

THE PROGNOSIS

The game has done excessively well as a reboot but it definitely has room for improvements such as the slow motion lag and the graphics pixellation problems. But nevertheless, the game has a good multiplayer experience for which one should prefer to buy it. The cinematics, character graphics and the ambience is very precise depiction of the real world action. This is pretty much imminent from the fact that players like Rey Mysterio never does power moves but focus on more springboard actions as well as players like Big Show who cannot climb the top of turnbuckle can perform power moves from the second rope. The choice of different game modes, title championships, exhibition matches from the main storyline, career mode and the presence of diva category make this game as one of the best and a promising reboot of a fan favourite game series.
