After an era of paramount success and fame with the ‘Warcraft’ franchise, Blizzard’s Entertainment had more or less went into a shell. Moreover, their previous flop show with the massively multiplayer game ‘Titan’, that got cancelled after seven years in development, added to their demise. But probably this is the time to make a change, isn’t it? At BlizzCon 2014, Blizzard’s Entertainment revealed their next game ‘Overwatch’ with a cinematic as well as a 6 minute stunning gameplay trailer. If you are thinking this is going to be one of their another MMORPGs, then you are mistaken as this time Blizzard has completely altered their genre to an out of the box FPS shooting game that will feature cooperative gameplay involving six on six battle between “heroes” with their jaw-dropping special abilities and AI skills. The game is scheduled for a Closed Beta launch in Fall 2015.
“What Can We Expect?”
- The gameplay trailer revealed that there will be two teams of six characters each who will strive towards their objective of completing goals while killing their opponents.
- Each player gets to control a character which gets switched with every respawn.
- The characters are of four types- attacking heroes with less amount of defense, defensive heroes with less attacking skills, supporting heroes aiding allies and hindering opponents, and armored heroes providing heavy machine guns and tanks.
- The trailer revealed fictional map scenarios from London, Japan and Ancient Egypt with more maps and two new characters announced during PAX East 2015.
The game looks promising with it’s immersive co-op gameplay and arresting ‘multikills’ and a team play which we once experienced in games like Counterstrike. Quoting Blizzard Entertainment co-founder Michael Morhaime , Overwatch aims to "create an awesome FPS experience that's more accessible to a much wider audience while delivering the action and depth that shooter fans love."
Heads Up: Overwatch is a Blizzard’s upcoming multiplayer FPS shooting game featuring co-op gameplay style with “heroes” having unique skills and abilities. The game is set for a Closed Beta launch in Fall 2015 only for PCs. The game in development by the Warcraft master developers Blizzard Entertainment has already created much hype owning to it’s genre in lines of Pixar and Dreamworks.
