BY AMIT BARAN ROY   |   The internet gaming community took its toll when Turtle Rock Studios announced that they are going to relaunch Evolve as a free to play game titled ‘Evolve Stage 2’ on Steam. And guess what, since the game went free to play on Steam two days back, the game’s user count went up by an approximate 16000 percent. Currently the game has a player count of over 24000 which became good enough to crack the top 20 on Steam. The original Evolve which was a winner of over 60 awards, went free to play as Evolve Stage 2 which is a next-generation free multiplayer shooter featuring addictive 4v1 gameplay. 1. Evolve Stage 2 PC- Hotfix 2.001 build: fixes character select issue:-

The Character select bug where you'd select a Monster or Hunter and it would switch over to a Free Rotation Hunter or Monster once you load into a game is now fixed. This will require a client update, so you will need to log out of Evolve: Stage 2 to download the update. The size of the update is around 151mb.

2. Evolve Stage 2 PC- DXGI_Device_Hung_Error:-

Many people are facing a terrible video driver crash after the patch 2.0 update. This issue is more common with AMD users with R9 series of cards. The game crashes with a BSOD error freezing the GPU completely. You may try ‘Verifying integrity of Game cache’ on Steam, updating GPU drivers and reinstalling DirectX. But if that doesn’t help, you can follow this official thread where Turtle Rock Studios is collecting dxdiag information to work on a fix.

3. Evolve Stage 2 PC- Crash at startup/ CTD/ crash at logo screen/ Game not responding/ APPCRASH/ BSOD/ Black screen fix:-

  • Update your Nvidia drivers to the latest Geforce Game Ready Driver 368.69 and AMD drivers to the latest Crimson Edition 16.7.1 Hotfix.
  • Disable antivirus/firewall or add game to the exception list of the antivirus software.
  • ‘Verify Integrity of Game Cache on Steam’ which may fix any errors due to game files corruption.
  • Disable all recording softwares like Fraps, MSI AfterBurner, D3DGear etc. They may conflict with your DirectX Direct3D settings resulting in a crash.
  • If your game is crashing while going full screen, try playing in windowed mode.
  • For crashes at logo screen using shadowplay, try verifying integrity of game files. If that doesn’t work, try the following.
Go to your Steam install folder, find a folder that looks like this...
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\xxxxxxxx\273350
The "xxxxxxxx" will be some random-looking number. You've got the right one if you see a 273350 folder inside. Delete the entire contents of the 273350 folder.
Restart the game to see if it helps.
  • If you are getting a hard crash after the installing Microsoft VC step, you can try clean reinstalling Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables from their official site. Also a clean reinstallation of the game along with that may also help.
  • For BSOD or device_hung_error crash, follow the Fix #2.
  • Black screen issue- Well this issue can be due to lot of reasons. First of all, you should check that the in-game resolution matches the resolution supported by your display device so that there should not be any conflict. If you are using HDMI, try unplugging the HDMI cable from TV and launch the game. Wait a few mins before replugging the HDMI cable back into the TV.
  • Registry clean using CCleaner can also fix some of the crashes. You can download CCleaner from here.
  • For any DLL error or APPCRASH issue, it is recommended to do a clean install of Directx. Or, you can download the missing DLLs from here and paste them in the game directory.

4. Evolve Stage 2 PC- Matchmaking/ Quickplay/ Black Screen issues:-

Right now the game is having a bit of server and connectivity issues. Players are having a frustrating experience where they enter a match and find that other players are dropping in and out. This is happening mostly in Quickplay matches. Sometimes players are locked in black screen after the end of the match which can only be fixed by quitting and restarting the game. Some players are also experiencing ‘no servers found’ in quickplay. Turtle Rock Studios is rigorously working on this issue. There is also an issue with the party system of the game that we believe will be fixed soon by the devs. Stay in touch with this thread for more info.

5. Evolve Stage 2 PC- Low FPS/ Stuttering/ freezes/ lags fixes:-

  • Updating your Nvidia and AMD GPU drivers is a must.
  • Some players might face a terrible FPS drop on a high end GPU card. This issue is mostly due to the missing shaders which keeps building while you play for longer time. Many users have got this issue fixed just by continuing to play the game for long hours. Future updates will bring more shaders into the game.
  • If you are facing optimization issues, severe lags or stutters; you can try turning down shadows and adjust other graphics settings. Updated GPU drivers is mandatory. Note that the game is launched as a Beta, so PC optimization issues might get fixed soon by the devs.
  • For AMD users, disable Raptr from task manager. Disable any other intensive applications that may be running in background. Also try setting ‘Tessellation mode’ to 8x/16x and 'Texture Filtering Quality' to Performance from your latest Crimson edition Radeon software to fix frame rate drops.
  • For Nvidia users, go into your control panel 3d settings. Make sure that ‘Power Management Mode’ option should be set to ‘Prefer Maximum Performance’.
  • Turn off all overlaying softwares and disable any recording softwares like Fraps, D3DGear, MSI Afterburner etc.
  • Disable third party background apps and set High Priority for the game in Task Manager. Disable any kind of overclocking.

6. Evolve Stage 2 PC- Input Not supported Error Fix:-

Whenever you change the Game resolution from the default settings, you may encounter this error. The most recommended solution is changing the Desktop resolution to Game resolution. This may fix the issue. Sometimes, moving the mouse cursor will also be helpful. Once you found “Input not supported” error message, just move the mouse cursor randomly for few seconds. You may get redirected to the game back.

7. Evolve Stage 2 PC- How to launch game in preferred language:-

  • Select Steam from the top left application menu.
  • From the resulting window select "Interface" and then select the language you would like from the drop down menu.

8. Evolve Stage 2 PC- How to access Legacy Evolve:-

  • Right click on Evolve in your game Library in Steam.
  • Select Properties from the resulting dropdown menu and a new window should popup.
  • Use the drop down to select the "legacyevolve" Beta Branch.
  • This should queue the download of the old client; from here two things will happen
    - If you owned Evolve prior to the July 7th F2P launch it will download the 40 GB client to play.
    - If you did not own Evolve prior to the F2P launch date it will download an empty client.

9. Evolve Stage 2 PC- Steam gets freezed after installing update:-

Some players are experiencing an issue where they have finished installing the update but the game won’t start. If you are lucky, restarting Steam, verifying game cache or reinstalling the game may fix it for you. But if that doesn’t help, you need to contact Steam support to remove the game completely from your library so that you can once again clean redownload the game. Or, you can very well use another Steam account to redownload the game and play it.

10. Evolve Stage 2 PC- No dialogues, voice and subtitles:-

This error is due to the mismatch in language pack once you are updating from the legacy Evolve edition. If your original Evolve was in a language other than English, you may face this issue as the update installs the English language pack by default. Follow the steps below to fix the language pack issue-

  • Right click Evolve Stage 2 in your games Library and select Properties.
  • Select the language Tab.
  • Set the language to your desired language.

  • Once in game verify your language is set to the language you want in Options -> Languages.

If you are getting issues other than the ones listed here, you can check out this official bug report forum for more insights on specific issues. You can also access the Evolve Stage 2 community FAQ here.

Heads Up: Evolve Stage 2 is available as Free to Play on Steam with a download size of little over 19GB.
