Far Cry Primal: PC errors, crashes, 88500014 error code issue, bugs, tweaks, low fps, stuttering, sound issues and performance fixes

Far Cry Primal is finally released for PCs, after about five days since its launch on Consoles. But the launch is not so smooth on PC as Ubisoft might have expected. There are a number of crashes and performance issues that players are facing which have resulted in the game being lowly rated on Steam (6/10). Gameplay wise the game is still rated better by critics but the multiple issues at launch are pulling the reviews down. There is a Day One patch released by Ubisoft which adds Expert mode and brings in more stability and performance fixes but issues with the game continues. Far Cry Primal is set in the Stone age where players will play as the protagonist Takkar who starts as an unarmed hunter and goes on to become the leader of a tribe. As eager as fans are to face the mammoths and sabretooths, these crashing issues are setting them back. So, here are some solutions and fixes to the common issues that players have been experiencing. Before that, it is recommended to have a look at the official system requirements listed out for the game.

1. Error 88500014, Something Went Wrong Fix:-

This is a common issue which many players have been facing especially after the Day One patch update. The following steps should be good to fix this issue.

  • It is mostly the Windows Firewall or the Antivirus security that may be blocking Uplay. Add the game to the exception list of the antivirus application or disable firewall/security completely and check if it works.
  • Some players have also found that keeping Uplay in offline mode, and launching game from Steam fixes the issue.

2. Far Cry Primal won’t start/ crash at startup/ DLL crash/ Black Screen fix:-

  • Most obvious step is to check if your GPU drivers are up to date. If not, update it to the latest version.
  • Try out the steps in the above fix and see if it works.
  • There is a possibility that the game files may be corrupted while downloading via Steam. Hence it is advised to verify your game installation files. Right click Far Cry Primal in library, go to ‘Properties’, select ‘Local Files’ tab, press ‘Verify integrity of Game Cache’ button. Steam will redownload the missing files.
  • If your game is crashing due to some DLL failure, it can be due to improper Directx install. Make sure to download the missing DLLs from here and paste them in the game directory.
  • If you are having the ‘Black Screen’ issue, try running the game in compatibility mode.
  • Finally, Registry cleaning using CCleaner can also fix some of the crashes. You can download CCleaner from here.

3. Low FPS/ Stuttering/ Freezes:-

Far Cry Primal is a graphics intensive game. You may have to sacrifice on the Graphics settings if you are not getting a decent playable in-game FPS.

  • Make sure the GPU drivers are up to date.
  • Lower in-game graphics settings. Disable Vsync. Lowering settings like Shadows Quality provides a huge performance boost. Lowering down Post FX and Anti-Aliasing can run the game at stable 60 FPS on GTX970M.
  • If you are running the game on SLI/Crossfire, try to switch to one card only.
  • Make sure to disable any conflicting Antispyware/Antivirus programs and other overclocking/recording softwares such as Fraps, MSI AfterBurner, ShadowPlay, D3DGear etc.
  • For AMD users, disable Raptr from task manager. Disable any other intensive applications that may be running in background. Also, you can set ‘Tessellation mode’ to 8x/16x from your Crimson edition Radeon 16.1 software.
  • For Nvidia users, you should change the Integrated GPU to Nvidia Graphics card (Nvidia control panel > Manage 3D settings). You can also set the ‘Power Management Mode’ option to ‘Prefer Maximum Performance’.
  • In Task Manager, set High Priority for Far Cry Primal process thread.
  • Try disabling Steam Overlay (open steam games, right click on Far Cry Primal, click on properties, unclick “enable steam overlay while playing”) and run Steam as administrator.
  • Memory leaks- Memory leaks can cause severe stuttering if the onboard RAM is not sufficient for the game. To fix it to some extent, try the next steps. Right click MyComputer > Properties > AdvancedSystemSettings > Advanced > Performance Settings > Advanced > Change Virtual Memory. Set page file for C drive to be anything high (say 5GB), then it may fix majority of the lag.

4. No sound issue fix:-

Sound issues were reported by players in Far Cry 4. Similarly, there are sound issues reported in Far Cry Primal too. Before any workaround, make sure that the sound drivers are up to date. If that doesn’t help, follow the steps below:

  • Go to the System32 folder. You need to delete a total of 16 files. So, we recommend back up the audio files before deleting.
  • Delete file ‘x3daudio1_0.dll to x3daudio1_7.dll’ and then ‘XAudio2_0.dll to XAudio2_7.dll’.
  • Go in the game folder, Far Cry Primal \ Support \ Software \ DirectX and install DXSETUP.
  • Reboot your PC once done.
  • Also make sure that your PC is running on only one sound driver. Multiple sound drivers can bottleneck your sound performance. Go to device manager and check the sound drivers installed. If more than one driver installed, delete the other ones.

5. Weird Colors/Graphics Fix:-

  • Go to your Nvidia control panel settings.
  • Select physx settings to your processor instead of auto.
  • Restart the game and then it should work.

6. Fatal Error File System Failure Fix:-

  • Run Uplay as Admin.
  • If that doesn’t help, then run the game in compatibility mode.

7. Stuttering mouse issues:-

Some players have reported that they are facing an irritating mouse stuttering issue due to mouse acceleration. Its more like auto-aiming using a controller while using a mouse. Turning off ‘Auto-Aim’ completely can help fix this issue to some extent.

8. Mouse and Keyboard not working Fix:-

Try disconnecting and reconnecting the peripherals. Refrain from connecting any other devices to the computer.
